James Robertson, firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service Rincon Crew No. 6 from Kernville, makes sure a 100-foot flame doesn't jump a newly bulldozed road off of Cherry Hill Road on a ridgeline north of Salmon Creek on July 25, 2002. The fire crews enacted a major back burn to protect about 55 structures in Horse Meadow as the McNally fire blazed through the Sequoia National Forest that summer.
