Face of hope, soldier funeral, BHS football, undocumented worker, hallway prayer.

In early 2005 Aimee Blaine began preparing for a bone marrow transplant after the Hodgkin's disease she had been diagnosed with didn't respond to chemotherapy. Her husband Michael, 3-year-old son Michael Alexander, family, friends and prayer groups throughout the city rallied around this extraordinary woman whose smile lights up a room. After a difficult transplant recovery she returned to Bakersfield and her family in July 2005 with hope of a complete recovery from the disease. This photo was taken Jan. 26.
